Self-Care Revamped

Good morning loves! Let's just say that this week was a trying one! I worked, basically all week, and it was a bit much! And so in talking about the topic for today, I wanted to explore self care. I spoke about this topic last year, on the basis of doing all the glamourous things ie. getting your nails, brows, hair, done. And even though that's the bomb.com, I wanted to dive a little deeper. Self-care is so much more than the tangible things.

Just on Saturday I found myself crying after I got home from work and settled because I just felt so tired. Or pop-dung as Jamaica people would say! I just allowed myself to sit in those emotions. Even as I sit here to type, I acknowledge that my body is going through the motions ie. triggers. I've realized that I physically manifest whatever is going on around me stressors at work, life, subconscious thoughts etc.

The crazy part is, this past week was the first time I ever realized how tense my shoulders were. I'd always say they're just broad, but it's to the point where I have people asking why they're so tight! And in these past couple of days, the more I try to relax, the more I try to stretch them, the more I try to just be at ease is the more tense they become. They just felt like stale bread that's been sitting out for way too long. I wanted to take a rolling pin and roll them out. All weekend I kept thinking, "man I can't wait for somebody's hands to rub out these shoulders" at the spa of course 🌚.

The point is, I want you guys to pay attention to those trigger. It's very important that you listen to what your body's telling you. I've listened to folks I aspire to be like, think wow if I could be an eighth of how they are I'd be great. But the downside is, they're battling depression, or anxiety, or some illness, because they didn't listen to their bodies and slow down. Then that becomes a slap in the face. Sometimes, our bodies are saying it's time to chill out!

FOMO fear of missing out has some of us wanting to be everywhere, and doing all the things, when we are really yearning for rest. Thank God for COVID in that it created some down time. Before I would feel guilty about not being productive on my days off. Now I'm saying don't even look at me! Now I'm productively chasing purpose and not money as taught by Patrice. I want to rest. I actually want to get eight hours of sleep. I actually want to eat a balanced breakfast.

Listen, God made the world in six days, and on the seventh day, He rested! So who are we to think that we can do it all? Sometimes you just gotta rest, put your feet up, kick back, stay at home in your robe and that's okay. It's better to do it now before life throws you curveballs, and before the going gets tough. Imagine if you had the lifestyle you really wanted? You have to make sure you know how to prioritize yourself and your self-care.

I just want to encourage you to rest, take care of yourself inside and out. Resting is important.
