What Are You Thankful For?

As we head into the last few weeks of 2020, I know most of us are hoping for a happy ending - the grand finale. This year was very different from what I think most of us expected. Thanksgiving for Americans, is right around the corner. I know for a fact that it won't be 'normal' for most. A lot has happened this year between COVID being the star of the show and people's livelihoods being at risk because of it. It's definitely put a lot into perspective for me as I navigate through my emotions.

Despite the tragedies and disparities that have happened this year, I am encouraging myself and you to find solace in all the things that you're grateful for during this season of Hell on Earth. There were times where I lost hope and figured that the world was ending 🤷🏾‍♀️. But we're still here! I'm not saying you have to be Happy Hannah all the time, but if you're still living which you are, because you're reading this post on a Friday, then there's at one thing you can be grateful for at least your life. Everyone's story is different. Everyone will have a different narrative in the years to come. While there were downfalls and some heartwrenching moments, there were some people whose families came together, others launched businesses, celebrated career moves/wins, graduated from school/programs, got married/engaged, birthed babies, moved into new spaces, found peace in their purpose, and the list goes on. Those are small wins to be grateful for. Take some time and bask in those wins. It takes resilience to still perform despite everything that we were faced with.

I want to encourage you during this holiday season as we all try to navigate through our emotions with COVID at the epicenter and holiday blues for some, to find at least one thing to be grateful for. Even if it is your life. God spared you. It wasn't by chance or by fate either. You may think it's silly or just a waste of time but I'll share my list with you:

I am grateful for:

  1. my life because no second, minute or hour is guaranteed to anyone

  2. my family I was able to spend more time with my family, and able to slow down and check in more with those farther away

  3. my friends for being a pillar of support and comfort during tumultuous times

  4. my job as much as I complain, I was fortunate enough to still have a job when thousands lost theirs

  5. my coworkers because if it weren't for them I probably wouldn't've survived the COVID surge at work

  6. discovering my purpose so that I can share with you and empower you

All these things may seem basic, but they're very significant. Take five minutes out of your day and make a list; even one thing is enough to be grateful for!
