Release The Expectations

Happy Mondaaaay! ☀️ I hope you ladies are well and had a great weekend.
Let me start off my saying this past weekend was so freeing for me that I feel like I've unlocked a whole new level of clarity. So let's jump into it.
Per the Oxford dictionary, expectation is defined as a belief that someone will or should achieve something; a strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the future.
So many of us are expected to uphold a certain title/status in adulthood, that we are so devastated, or see ourselves as a disappointment to others when it doesn't come to fruition. Think about it, how many of us were ushered into college at or around 18 years old, with the expectation that we knew what we wanted to be for the rest of our lives. On the flip side, how many of us are there that left with a college degree and no clue as to what we desired?
There are also some of us who weren't first generation college graduates, but we still aren't fulfilling our desires, due to being tied to our employers' expectations, and the fear of the unknown if we do stray from our norm. There are so many pools of expectations that we cling to, instead of looking at the one person who matters most. And that's ourselves.
I did a live yesterday and someone mentioned in the comments that we are looking to fulfill worldly expectations, instead of latching on to God's expectations for us. I could not have agreed more! It's refreshing to know that my life is more than my career, or any other title that may be willingly or unwillingly affixed to me. Tapping into my purpose allowed me to detach from these traditional expectations that I latched on. I've learned a lot from my upbringing, but I also understand that times are changing and so are my visions.
I am wholeheartedly embracing mindset shifts in this season, and one of them is releasing what I thought I had to do because of how I was raised. Are you bound to what others have spoken over you? Are you ready to break out of that? Leave a comment below and let me know.
