Do you ever put your phone on Do Not Disturb? Android users, please don't come for me, I don't know what y'all have š. But seriously, do you ever put your phone down, or turn the media off, or just silence everything else around you?
Some months ago I found myself in a position where I was at home sitting on my bed and just wanted a break from everything and everyone. #TalkDiTruth have you ever felt that way? One of the main reasons was because I needed to get it together to plan OYA's anniversary event. But I also realized that I needed to set some boundaries for myself.
I needed to be able to break from social media, not answer phone calls, video calls, nor text messages promptly. Not only was the downtime used productively, and afforded me time to tick things off my checklist, but it helped me to re-center myself. To be honest, it should've never gotten to that point to begin with.
In my opinion, the constant exposure to everything social, can be draining. Do you realize how this 'social' world can easily cause us to lose track of ourselves? You will find the time to scroll endlessly on social media, but can't find the time to be productive and start the thing you've been talking about for the past two years. It's a decoy. Sometimes you have to unplug from the world for an hour. You'll be surprised at your productivity and the level of peace you experience.
Don't be that person who has FOMO (fear of missing out). You're not missing anything but more gossip, a bunch of pointless emails, and enticing ways to spend money on dinner, shopping, and pointless items that you won't need a year from now. One of the things I speak about in my upcoming book join the waitlist here, is how we always feel the need to fit in. Looking cute for the culture can cause us to lose ourselves in the process.
What no one tells us, is that it's okay to lay low for a bit. It's okay to not show everything on social media, or be caught up on The Shade Room and what all the celebrities and your favorite Insta friends in your head are up to. It's also okay to tune out your family and friends for some 'you' time or well-needed peace of mind.
You have to come to the realization that putting the world on do not disturb, is making the decision to prioritize yourself. If you don't make that choice, you will surely allow someone or something else the power to make that decision for you.

Something Iāve been feeling and working on lately!! I love my alone time and will ignore a call/text with th quickness if thatās the space im in. learning to enjoy moments and not worry about posting and whoās watching on social media, like you said itās all a distraction. This was right on timešš¾
