Discernment

Discernment: perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual guidance and understanding.

I don't know about you but this is something I pray about on a consistent basis. Why? Because my judgment is not always spot on. It's like constantly running into the fire and wondering why you keep getting burned. The reason being, is because as cliche as it sounds, not everything that looks good, is good for you. For example, a man may look great on paper but there are tons of red flags. Or maybe the job you always wanted turns out to be a bust once you start working. Or what about the house, car, and every other thing you lay your eyes on. Sometimes, it's more than that. It may be about your calling in life but not because it seems great for everyone else, means that it is FOR YOU!

There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.

Proverbs 14:12

One of the Bible plans that I'm currently reading uses Adam and Eve as an example. Girl chile, if this isn't more obvious, then I don't know what is. God clearly said not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But the serpent and his sly self, suckered Eve into thinking that there was more to the fruit and that God was keeping secrets essentially. It's my belief that if God is 'keeping a secret', it's for my own good. We don't have to know everything; we just have to trust Him. Not only did Eve think that God was keeping secrets, she lured her husband into thinking the same thing. We all know how the story ends. In the moment, it seemed right, but it eventually led to them both being kicked out of the garden and immediately they realized how they'd sinned.

Isn't it the same with us? Initially, we see what's "good", and get excited that we run on full force without any question. Then somewhere along the line, we notice the stop signs, but we continue because in our eyes no bad can come from it. Eventually, "death" occurs, and we are stuck in a rut and the good thing doesn't benefit us in any way possible. Now we're back at square one, begging God to show us His way. Or maybe I'm the only one 🤔 THIS, is why discernment is important. In my previous post 'Give It Up', I spoke about surrendering your life to God and giving Him the authority to have full control; we are human, and quite frankly, imperfect beings. I've found, that only praying for discernment is not the answer; reading your Bible is the KEY to half of your answers and listen, I STILL struggle with being consistent; hence why I read my Bible plans and carve out time to watch my sermons; I find it more relatable and helps me understand the text.

Just remember love, not everything that looks good, is from God. What's from Him will come with confirmation, and you'll be able to back it with His word/guidance.
