Being Busy Doesn't Equate to Productivity

Updated: Jul 17, 2020

Listen! Tired, ain't cute. AT ALL! As women, especially 21st century women, many of us are determined to do things on our own. I saw an Instagram post that said “We are becoming the men we want to marry”. While I don’t see it is a bad thing, I do think sometimes we overwork ourselves. I’m a nurse, I work 12 hour shifts - I AM THE DEFINITION OF TIRED! Imagine working and then trying to start a business? It’s even double the work. I found myself spending more hours awake than asleep, and even though there were some limiting beliefs on my end, I wasn’t producing the results I wanted. Ask yourself, is what you’re doing producing fruit? Is it fulfilling your purpose? If it's not, my love, you’re wasting your time. We have to pay attention to our bodies. I was listening to a podcast by Patrice Washington, and she said she literally ran herself into the ground investing into her businesses, until she physically presented with symptoms. Full disclosure, I have self-diagnosed seborrheic dermatitis (on my scalp). I’ve noticed from my junior year in college until now, that anytime I am stressed my scalp is on fire. Stress literally manifests on my head top! You’ll realize, that running around claiming busyness will only do you a disservice. Imagine going to work or attending an event and someone exclaims that you look tired. It’s happened to me. It’s not a good feeling. If your calendar is booked yet you're not being of service to others, or enhancing your life, say ‘NO’.

Learn to listen to your body. Learn to say “NO” when you’re exhausted. Hydrate, take care of your skin, invest in self care, work out (whew! Those two words alone made me sweat), take walks somewhere serene; engage in activities that allow your body to fully rest. NORMALIZE resting. We live in a world that promotes ‘hustling’. Don’t run yourself into the ground if it’s not benefitting you. Switch up the routine. Schedule time for YOU. Oh, and mental health - that’s a topic for another day because that is HUGE.

Love, if it’s one thing I’ve learned, is to work smarter not harder.

True story, for the past month, my scalp has been clear and at ease! 😊

#normalizeresting. It's okay to breathe & take a break. Being forced into my break now. ❤
