Be Authentically You

Updated: Aug 3, 2020

Who are you when you’re being your true self? Who are you behind closed doors, when the lights, camera, action are off? What do you hide, from others around you? What gives you a burning desire, but you’re afraid of what the world may think? What are your limiting beliefs? Have you ever asked yourself these questions? You should!

I don’t know about you, but this COVID season has brought me so much peace (the irony). I’ve learned so much more about myself, than in all my adult life, to date. YOU ARE YOUR BEST INVESTMENT. It is important to understand your morals, values, beliefs, likes, dislikes, what makes you tick, and likewise, what ticks you off; the reason behind these attributes that make you, you. When you understand yourself as a woman, you’re able to conform to your own standards, and not those that are put in place for you. If you don’t know yourself, you will subconsciously allow everyone else to influence what you say or do.

I’m a firm believer that you should self-reflect, as many times as you see fit. Personally, I journal. It is the most freeing experience, and one I’ve been engaging in since high school. You see, when you’re a teenager who is growing up with her grandparents, there are some things you’re prevented from doing. Journaling, was my outlet (and still is). Find your outlet! Do you understand that you are constantly being fed? No, I don’t mean physical food, I mean mental food, both positive and negative emotional foods, and spiritual food. On a daily average, there are numerous things pouring into you, sometimes all at once: work, social media, your friend who has nothing better to do but gossip, the bad news on TV, your mom calling with drama. These avenues can cloud your thought processes and judgment.

THIS IS WHY, it is important to take a break. PRAY. Spend time alone for a couple hours each day. Unfollow/delete the people who no longer serve you. Part ways with toxicity. DO WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL COMPLETE. So often, we do what WE THINK we should be doing and ignore our gut. If something makes me feel anxious or uneasy, I follow my gut and pray about it - it probably isn’t meant to be. I believe I’m most at peace at 27, because I’ve been spending time with God, praying, reading books and devotionals, listening to music that make me dance, and owning my personality 💯.

The you that’s reading this now, may not be the you, you want to manifest. Spend time with her. Allow yourself to learn new things about her. Don’t worry, you’re not in this journey alone. I’m on this path too. Go ahead love, enjoy and be authentically you.
